Manhattan is home to John Street United Methodist Church, the oldest Methodist society on the continent. But so much more Methodist history is right beyond its doors. Join us for a walking tour of Lower Manhattan and uncover the stories of “the people called Methodists.”

Our path will take us to the site of our very first meeting in the Philip Embury home and to the “Old Rigging Loft” where Captain Webb first found the nascent congregation as we follow the steps of those who established Methodism in New York and beyond. You will see the first Methodist pulpit in America and the society's class meeting benches, both displayed in the Wesley Chapel Museum. Throughout the 19th century, Methodists played a key role in evangelical endeavors in publishing, the Sunday School movement, and benevolent efforts like the Five Points Mission. All of this happened downtown. These stories from our past have important lessons for our present and future. Register now to join the conversation.
